Whoa! I can't believe that is how I think.

Being open-minded means considering new ideas and different ways of thinking. It's like listening carefully to everyone's thoughts, even if they're not the same as yours. This helps teams work together better and come up with creative solutions. Being open to change and learning helps you and others do well and improve.

Embracing this open-mindedness, I began a journey to connect my business approach with a more understanding and inclusive mindset. Triggered by a humbling 360 assessment, I started looking at how I communicated. While managing 300 volunteers with a new agency program, I prioritized meeting client needs and getting approval from supervisors and board members. However, a hidden realization emerged—I had inadvertently excluded colleagues and directors from crucial strategic discussions.

Removing ego and pride, I moved towards a more inclusive approach. A partnership with the Center for Creative Leadership, generously sponsored by American Express, introduced me to coaching unraveling layers of personal growth. Under the mentorship of a fantastic coach, I undertook a year of learning, earning a Master's in Public Administration and certifications in conflict resolution and nonprofit management. The John Maxwell team empowered me with enhanced communication and leadership skills.

The discovery of effective communication redefined my interactions. I adopted an open and receptive stance, valuing colleagues' input and fostering inclusive decision-making. I honed the art of questioning and attentive listening, enriching professional and personal dynamics. With conflict resolution wisdom at my fingertips, empathy-driven solutions became second nature.

Ultimately, this discovery of a more open and inclusive outlook evolved from humility and a thirst for enlightenment. The combination of self-awareness, acquired learning, and authentic connections form an enduring testament to the strength and flexibility of an open mind.
