Word of the Year
I often ask my clients what their word of the year is. For me, my words for 2024 were clarity and simplicity. These words helped me cut through the noise, prioritize what truly matters, and embrace a more focused approach in both my personal and professional life. By keeping things clear and simple, I’ve found greater peace and productivity.
This idea of clarifying and simplifying our lives is something I reflected deeply on. The best way to prepare for what's ahead is sometimes to imagine looking back from the end. At the close of each year, I picture myself reflecting on the past twelve months, asking, "Will I be able to say, 'This was good'?"
When we take a step back and assess our lives through this lens, it becomes clearer what truly matters. This year, after a family member experienced a mental health crisis, my guiding words of clarity and simplicity became a lifeline. They helped me focus on what was essential—relationships, well-being, and faith in God. I had to let go of the unnecessary to tend to what truly mattered.
When we choose a word—or a few words—for the year, we create a steady compass for ourselves. It becomes a tool to guide us through decisions, challenges, and new opportunities, ensuring that we remain grounded in our values. As we look toward the new year, I invite you to ask: What story do I want to tell? What word will help shape that narrative?
I encourage you to select a word that will anchor you in the year ahead. Just as clarity and simplicity anchored me through a challenging time, your chosen word can serve as you navigate the year, guiding you toward a life that you’ll be proud to reflect on when the year ends.
